Note: [player]s may discuss strategy during this phase, but may not refer to specific cards.

1.

Deal [hand size] cards to each [player]

2.

Closed draft:

1.

Each [player] sets aside 1 card and passes the rest clockwise (without looking at the incoming card(s))

2.

Repeat until all dealt cards are set aside

3.

Collect the set aside cards as your starting [hand]

3.

Determining [scion]s:

1.

[GM] asks if anyone has an [ascendant] [king], and if so, it is revealed and placed in the [scion] position in front of the [player] who had it

2.

If no [ascendant] [king], then the [GM] repeatedly asks for the next lower [strength] until the highest card of the [suit] is found and placed in the [scion] position

3.

The cycle is repeated across the [suit]s in [cycle] order

4.

Each [player] draws back up to their complete [hand size]

5.

Starting with the [ascendant] [suit], make a [faction move] for each [suit] in [cycle] order

6.

[ascendant] [scion] starts discussion on what to do next:

1.

<this will become a list of the other activities you can do to start play>

Commentary:

This is intended to create some limited knowledge about what is in other [player]s’ starting [hand]s.

This is intended to create some tradeoffs among starting [hand], [suit] alignment, and defense against [GM]/[void] choices.

This is intended to limit powerful Elemental Magic by impacting some high-level [straight]s.

This is intended to generate setting changes and inciting events (& sandbox/quest ideas) from the [faction move]s.
